Porsche Service in Westwood, CA

For Westwood owners who park under the Wilshire Corridor towers, in the Westwood Village structures or at UCLA and Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. Those steep ramps and tight turns scrape undertrays, scrub front tires and bend wheels. The Werkstatt is a Porsche-only independent shop a few blocks south, on Santa Monica Blvd in West LA.

Porsche Service Serving All of Westwood, CA

Westwood is one of our closest neighborhoods, and it parks differently from the rest of the Westside. The condominium towers along Wilshire Boulevard keep their cars underground. UCLA, the medical center and Westwood Village keep them in multi-story structures. Either way, a Westwood Porsche starts and ends most drives on a steep ramp, in a narrow lane, turning as tightly as it can. The garage is the hard part.

Three things happen there. First, the ramps. Where a ramp meets a flat floor, the nose of a low car reaches the change of angle before the front wheels do. The front lip touches, then the plastic undertray behind it, and a torn undertray can hang down and drag. Second, the turns. A Porsche on wide front tires, turned to full lock, cannot roll both front wheels cleanly around the corner. The tires skip sideways across the polished concrete, most of all on a cold morning. That is a known characteristic of wide tires and steering geometry, and on its own it is not a fault, so it needs no parts. It does wear the shoulders of the front tires faster than street driving would. Third, the concrete itself. Wheel stops, pillar bases and ramp curbs sit at the height of a wheel rim, and a touch that only marks the rim can also bend it or knock the alignment out. If the car has a front axle lift, use it on every ramp.

Why Westwood Drivers Trust The Werkstatt

A ramp scrape or a new pull in the steering is a short drive from our door. We're independent, and in more than 30 years the only cars we've worked on are Porsches, every model line from the 911 and Boxster to the Cayenne and Panamera. One shop, at 10527 Santa Monica Blvd, just south of the Village. Bring the car in and we'll evaluate it and give you a quote, or request one online and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.

    • Fluid on the garage floor after a scrape often comes from a condenser or radiator sitting low in the nose
    • A torn front undertray or a missing fastener can let the panel hang down and drag
    • Full-lock turns in garages wear the shoulders of the front tires before the center of the tread
    • A pull, an off-center steering wheel or a bent rim after a curb strike can mean a bent part, which matters before any Porsche suspension repair or alignment
    • We work on Porsche only, from the 911 and Boxster to the Macan and Cayenne

    About Westwood, CA

Westwood is a neighborhood of the City of Los Angeles, built around the UCLA campus below the Santa Monica Mountains. Westwood Village, just south of campus, was laid out in the late 1920s and still has the Fox Village and Bruin theaters, where film premieres are held. Wilshire Boulevard crosses the neighborhood, and the stretch east toward Beverly Hills is the Wilshire Corridor, lined with condominium towers. The Hammer Museum stands at Wilshire and Westwood Boulevard. Sunset Boulevard runs along the north side of campus and the 405 along the west. Most parking is in structures or at meters in the Village, and many residential blocks have permit rules. Our shop is just south, on Santa Monica Boulevard.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions About Porsche Service in Westwood

Answers to common questions from Westwood drivers about Porsche Service.

My front tires shudder and skip when I turn sharply in the parking garage. Is something broken?

Usually not. At full lock and low speed, wide front tires scrub across smooth concrete. If it comes with a knock, a pull to one side or uneven tire wear, have it looked at.

I scraped the front of my Porsche on a garage ramp. Does it need to be checked?

A scuff on the lip is cosmetic. What matters is behind it: the undertray, its fasteners, and the radiators and A/C condensers low in the nose. If anything is hanging down, or you see fluid on the garage floor afterward, that calls for a Porsche repair inspection.

I hit a curb and now the steering wheel sits off-center. Can I keep driving?

Drive it gently and have it looked at soon. An off-center wheel after an impact means the alignment has moved, and sometimes that a suspension arm or a wheel is bent. An alignment is needed afterward, and it only holds if nothing is bent.
