Porsche Service Serving All of Pacific Palisades, CA
Pacific Palisades is built on mesas and ridges above the ocean, and nearly every way out is down. Palisades Drive falls for miles from the Highlands to Sunset Boulevard. Chautauqua and Temescal Canyon Road drop to Pacific Coast Highway. Most drivers take these at a steady speed with a foot resting on the brake pedal, and that is the hardest thing you can ask of a brake system. One firm stop puts a lot of heat into the discs and then lets them cool. Light, continuous braking never stops adding heat, so the temperature of pads, discs and fluid keeps rising all the way to the bottom.
Pads held hot against the disc glaze: the surface hardens and grips less. On cross-drilled discs, fine heat cracks form around the holes. Small ones are normal, and a crack that runs to the edge of the disc is not. And the fluid suffers. Brake fluid absorbs water from the air over time, and water lowers its boiling point, so a car that comes down from the Highlands every day on three-year-old fluid is the one that gets a long, soft pedal near the bottom. Then there is the light at the foot of the hill. Sitting at PCH with hot pads clamped on hot discs can print pad material onto the disc face, and the pedal pulses afterward. That is often mistaken for warped discs. The best fix is in how you drive down. Use the downshift paddle or select a lower gear and let the engine hold the car back, and when you do brake, brake firmly and then release. Your pads and discs will last longer, which means less work for us.
Why Pacific Palisades Drivers Trust The Werkstatt
A soft pedal at the bottom of the hill can be fluid, pads or a disc, and a car that comes down Palisades Drive every day works its brakes harder than its mileage suggests. We're an independent shop that works only on Porsches, with more than 30 years of experience across every model line from the 911 and Boxster to the Cayenne and Panamera. One shop, at 10527 Santa Monica Blvd in West LA, east along Sunset and down the 405. Request a quote or bring the car in, and we'll evaluate it and give you a quote.
- Long descents glaze pads and put heat cracks in drilled discs; small cracks around the holes are normal, and one that reaches the edge is not
- Brake fluid absorbs water over time, so a brake fluid service is due by time, every two years, which matters most on cars that brake downhill daily
- A pulsing pedal can be pad deposits or worn discs, and the two feel the same from the driver's seat
- We work on every Porsche model line, including the Cayenne and Macan, whose weight puts the most heat into the brakes on a descent
- Discolored calipers and pad backing plates are the mark of brakes that run hot every day, a common route to Porsche brake repair

About Pacific Palisades, CA
Pacific Palisades is a coastal district of the City of Los Angeles, set on bluffs and mesas between Santa Monica and Malibu, with the Santa Monica Mountains and Topanga State Park behind it. Sunset Boulevard is its main road, and the Village, around Swarthmore Avenue, is its center. Pacific Coast Highway runs along the beach below the bluffs, and Temescal and Rustic canyons cut down toward it.
The January 2025 Palisades fire destroyed many homes and businesses here, and rebuilding is underway across much of the community. If your car came through the fire or sat in smoke and ash, bring it in and we'll evaluate it and give you a quote. Most homes have garages or driveways, so a car usually starts its day parked on a grade. The shop is east along Sunset, past Brentwood, in West Los Angeles.
